Brazilian Model Photoshoot

It started by my friend's chat (Teh Maya). She is make up artist. We have worked together in project for pilot promotion. In short, Teh Maya asked me to do proper model photoshoot. I just excited. Because I never do that before and I really wanted to get that experience. Teh Maya connected me with Wita. She is fashion stylist. We had meeting, decided what we want and prepared for photoshoot.

We just had meeting once, then we communicated through WhatsApp group. Wita gave us option about model. Then we dealt with Geovana. Teh Maya also asked Cecilia as hair stylist. I asked Yudha as lighting assistant.

We did photoshoot in BSD, Wita's home. I brought Lumos's lighting studio and background. We did photoshoot from 12pm until 6 pm. It was long but I was glad getting new portfolio.

And these are the final result:

If you are make up artist, fashio stylist, hair stylist or model, and want to do this kind of photo session, just let me know through my instagram :)

Being Mocked in Food Photography Class

Until today, I'm still feeling blessed as the part of Kelas Pagi Jakarta. Because, there are many lessons that being taught by our mentor, Anton Ismael. One of the materials is food photography. According to him, the aims for food photography are shape, texture, and colour. We must know how to style the food so that people interest to eat it. Furthermore, we must display the real colour and the detail texture for that food.

As I remember, we tried to shoot food in three days. In the first day, I brought my favourite dry food. That's bread haha. I brought it then try to shoot on the rooftop. When Pa'e (Anton Ismael) asked us to show and collect the photographs. I confidently showed to him. He just said "just store in my laptop".

Afterwards, he displayed all collected pictures through projector. I submitted three pictures and he said "Okay anybody, please look at this example. This is bad example". He said firmly. I just felt punched by his statement hahaha. However, I never feel down for that kind of critic. I know it was hard being mocked in front of many student. Nevertheless as long as that's for our improvement, I accepted it. Oh ya, he also said "you're taking commercial specialization, right? It doesn't look commercial enough. If it printed on green beans porridge menu on street side, that's fine. But it's not proper for high end restaurant" #JLEB hahahaha

(I'm still finding where those mocked pictures pictures are)

In the next days, I tried to shoot another stuff. I brought snack and shot it. My friends helped me in photoshoot. The hardest part in food photography is food styling, I think. I confused, where to put the food, which background I should use and many more. I got the picture which I didn't confidently good. When I want to submit to Pa'e. I see there are chillies on the sack. I took photograph of it since there was good shadow and lighting for me. I submitted the chillies picture. This is the picture.

(And I will upload the chillies picture ASAP)

What do you think? I guess if you're non-expert, you just said "hmmm not bad". However Pa'e said "Who is the picture belong to? It's so countrified (kampungan). Once again, it punched me hahaha. I just sat and calm down. I know food photography is hard.

Lastly, Pa'e asked us to create group then doing photoshoot together. In short, after getting much critic from Pa'e and help from my friend, there are my last result of food photography

I shot it alone in my house just using natural light. The title is "Makan Cabe Pake Nasi"

Not bad at all, right? I wish I always continue to force myself again and again to learn new skills :)

Photo Printing by Myself

As I wrote in previous posts, I'm taking photography school in Kelas Pagi Jakarta. It is community based actually, but the curriculum is like a school. There are task, remedial, exhibition, mentorship program, etc. This week, we did saltprint. Saltprint is one of methods to print out our photograph on paper, canvas, wood and other media.

I love this task actually though I got trouble doing that stuff. The steps are very scientific. I met (again) with chemical powder, saline solution, etc. If you want to know detail how to do salt print, just watch video below.

Do you wonder how saltprint image looks like? Do you want to see my experiments? Actually, headmaster told us that there will be exhibition for this saltprint labolatory. However, I still doubt the detail when it will be held. Therefore, I can't hold my excitement to show to all of you guys my images. Eventhough I tried three times, I think there is no perfect image. I didn't capture the first one, it was very awful. The second one is better than the first. Then the third is the best (comparing the others) haha.

Images of my friends in Kelas Pagi are very amazing. Most of them are more awesome than mine. So, even you've seen my images, you must visit our exhibition. I'll update soon through this blog.

I am a Photography Student

After resigning from engineering company, I dedicated this year for learning about photography and videography focusly. Yes, I'm running photography and videography business. I always think the way to enhance my ability in those areas. I guess, we just have three options. The first one, taking formal/informal degree. Second, join photography or videography community. Third, working professionally as assistant or whoever of adorable photographer/videographer. I guess, I'll get first and second option in once.

In the end of January, I went to free seminar in Conclave. I met with a guy and he said "Do you want to seriously learn about photography? Join Kelas Pagi. It's very insightful". I already knew about Kelas Pagi and I have joined workshop from Kelas Pagi in last October regarding Fashion Photography.

I assume that Kelas Pagi just conducts free class/workshop/seminar. Nevertheless, it is such as school. If you want to join, you need to wait open recruitment anually, submit your portfolio and having interview. Then, if you are eligible, you can join that class. From my batch. Over 200 applicants, about 90 were called to intervew and 50 are accepted as Student in Kelas Pagi Jakarta.

Last week, I had orientation week from Monday to Friday. I needed to wake up at 5 a.m. Then headed to Third Eye Studio, Cipete at 5.30 a.m. Because the class is started at 6 a.m. I feel so lucky being student in here. Eventhough I just join for one week, but I guess this will be one-year-life-changing experiences for me, especially as professional photographer.

Anyway, this week we don't go to class because we need to prepare proposal. We should choose which path we want to focus. Fashion? Beauty? Journalism? Food? Commercial? etc. I choose commercial as my major. However, final decision is in Pa'e (Anton Ismael) as our mentor. He will choose the major and mentor for us. I wish nothing but the best hehehe

DECI Engineer/Photographer

Who thinks engineer can't be photographer as well? I am so happy having office mates who have same interest with me. Ya, photography. In couple weeks ago, I headed to Ragunan and did photohunt with them. The event actually just for 2 hours and the attendants just 5 people. But, I feel that was enough as the initial event. We captured animals for sure and didn't forget to capture ourself hahaha. I wish this kind of event can be held regularly, then we can gain our techniques in photography.

I feature the best photograph which were captured by each of us.
