As Speaker in Filmmaking Workshop

I guess sharing is one of my passion. Through this blog, social media and directly talking to friends, I always share whatever that excites me. A few months ago, I was contacted by one of STID M. Natsir member to share about documentary film workshop. There is no reason to ignore this invitation. Excitedly, I accepted his offering and prepare the material for workshop.

Though, I don't think myself as professional filmmaker yet, I tried to share what I know from my previous experience in producing short movie with Sinematografi UI fellas and video clip with my mentor, Upie Guava. I wish the aim of this event was achieved. They would to have capability in filmmaking as one of "dakwah" medium. Good luck and see you in other interesting sessions :D

P.s: They gave me the certificate as appreciation and also the file folder. When I already backed, I opened the folder, there is envelope. And there is money there. I don't know what to say. I didn't expect for this thing. Beside this is my first time for filmmaking workshop and I know this seminar is free for the student, I mean there is no charge as I know. I really thank to them. It's not about the value of money, but they appreciate me for the knowledge transfer.

[Short Movie] I AM

There was Short Movie Competition in my previous company. As you can read in this post, I won for 1st winner and 3rd winner in last year (2013). Actually, it just because 3 participants who submitted their movies. Two of them is me hehehe. When the competition info was published, many office mates asked me to join this competition. Some of them just over expected that I will be the winner. Moreover at the first, HR forbade me to join this competition without make sense reason. Eventually I got the idea and tried to produce short movie.

I recruited members to small team. I asked Shaka as Cast, Mba Leon as Make Up Artist who will makeover Shaka looked older, and Mas Ageng as Production Designer/ Production Assistant who prepared properties and assisted me regarding technical issues. The script was developed just for one night, then we execute it for two days. We tried to complete it just one day. However, missing some shots caused us to spend more time in another day.

Honestly, I pleased to contribute in this competition. It wasn't about the prize or the pride. I counted it as my last movie/art in that company. Since the day that movie was played is my last day. [Short Movie] AROGANSI

It's been a long time, i do not post anything. A few weeks ago, I was being busy by film project. Actually, I already one film project with Sinematografi UI. But, I have to produce another one since I joined Kinescope Short Movie Project. At the beginning of March, there was workshop from kinescope. Kinescope is free magazine about film, art and education. In that workshop, we were separated into classes. Directing class, editing class, scriptwritting class and camera class.

In the end of this workshop, we were being united into some groups who have final project to produce short movie. So, I met with new mates from editing class, scriptwritting class and camera class. We had one month to produce this short movie. But, honestly, in the beginning, we waste much time. I mean, some of us not really concern about this project, ya including me. Because I still concern with my project with Sinematografi UI. It wasn't entirely not concern. We spend much time for brainstorming and found the idea about what our film would be. And finally, about 2 weeks to deadline, we dealt about our story then prepared for production.

That was tight day. Initially, I expected can finish shooting by one day. But the fact, we spend two days. First day spend 6 hours and second day spend about 15 hours. I learnt much thing from this production and I also got the feedback from some of my mates who watched this movie. I hope all of you can also watch this, give me comment, it's okay if its negative comment instead. And wish me luck for the final announcement.

Shooting Film DECI

Jadi di kantor gue itu lagi ada Short Film Competition sebagai ajang penutup di akhir tahun ini. Awalnya gue gak mau ikutan dikarenakan waktu yang sangat singkat dari mulai dikasih tau kalo ada kompetisi ini sampai deadlinenya. Trus juga harus orang-orang kelompoknya harus antar divisi. Bukannya gak mau kalo antar divisi, tapi satu divisi aja susah nyari waktu yang pas nya apa lagi kalo beda divisi. Dan juga beberapa alasan lainnya. Tetapi karena deadline nya dimundurin, dan ternyata boleh-boleh aja kalo satu divisi yaudah akhirnya gue dan beberapa temen-temen dari Piping bikin film yang yaaaa bisa dibilang singkat dan sederhana sih.

Doain aja ya semoga kita dapet yang terbaik. Anyway ini pertama kalinya loh kita shooting beneran shooting di kantor, sebelomnya bikin video jalan-jalan di krakatau, tapi itu kan travelling video, gak terlalu banyak script dll. Kalo ini kan udah ada script nya. Jadi cast nya pun harus diarahin sesuai script. Ya, salah satu experience yang seru lah di kantor. Next time kita bikin lagi film pendek yang cilik-cilik ae demi produktivitas perfilman Indonesia (tsaelaaah).

Shooting Day 1

Last night, at "malam takbiran", i had been shooting for a night. We met up at Sente Cafe and Resto, kelapa dua and prepared and did setting shooting tools at 5 pm. Then, we started to shoot at 7 pm. We had any problem yesterday.

First, when we was starting record some shoots, we heard "takbiran" voice from mosque. We cannot control it. So we used iPhone to backup any voice and we must do dubbing. We will do it later.

Second, the environment so dark. We already prepared the lighting. But we just brought portable lighting. The price is expensive enough for me. For that little stuff, we must spend IDR 100.000. I thought that expensive, since i had used "blonde lighint". It just IDR 20.000 per day and the light was brighter.

Third, the battery for lighting and camera was empty when shooting didn't finish yet. So we must wait for a half hour then continued shooting. Bring some additional batteries when you want to shooting!!!!

I made it with Sinematografi UI mate and helped by some friends from Broadcasting UI 2007. Shooting isn't easy, but very fun to do. I just adore all of filmmakers in Indonesia such as Mira Lesmana, Riri Riza, Rudi Soejarwo, Joko Anwar who already created a lot of films. And i know it wasn't easy. I wish someday, i could be great filmmaker like them.

#1 Webseries Community Gathering

This wednesday, there was gathering of Webseries Indonesia Community. Actually, this is my first time join gathering this community. I know this info from Dennis Adhiswara's tweet. I guess this gathering would be fun and give me any knowledge about filmmaking and my prediction is right.

This event was held in IDS Epiwalk. There were some speaker and they shared about their channel. Anyway for all of you who didn't know about webseries. So, webseries is such as video or movie which played in website such as Youtube and we can make it regularly like serial movie. There was so many interesting youtube channel. Polycrystalline (Short Film)

Why i want to make this film?

Start from junior whose name Estaura, she asked me "kak nizar, bantuin bikin film TC dong". First, i've tried to deny since i want to focus doing my final project a.k.a TA or Skripsi. I just said "oke nanti gue bantu deh sharing gimana caranya blablabla" i mean, that i didn't take it directly. Just share my info and experience.

Then my friend, joni. He often asked me "dimana zar? dicariin tuh. katanya gimana film TC". Joni made me think "okay, i have to contribute in this filmmaking". Unfortunatelly, Estaura and team still didn't have realistic idea to make short-film. We just have approximately 1-2 weeks to make this film.

Because we didn't have enough time, so i take over making story and real script. In another word, i am as Director and Scriptwritter. Anyway this is the first time i made real script. Event it still amateur, at least i've tried better.

How about the excecussion?

Looking for idea and write on paper as real script spend time 2 days. Then in Monday we took some shoot, just 2 of 11 scenes. Then continued 8 scenes in Tuesday. And the longest scene is the last scene. We shoot it at wednesday. We through some togetherness (azeeeeek, hehe). From must be patient to cast who often laugh until shoot really seriously and i didn't take again some scene even still there some mistake such as some figuran smile, etc. Because we didn't have enough time once again. We went to KFC Lenteng Agung to shoot, to "kos-kos-an", kutek, bunderan psiko, etc.

AND THE UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT IS WHEN MY LEG WAS BITTEN BY DOG IN FEUI !!!! That was really sh*t moment. But it's okay.

Deadline was Friday, and fortunatelly we had editor who doesn't have experience in editing video but work profesionally. And i can't lie that he is really great. His name Ali Syakir. We late 34 minutes in submitting this film, and our point reduced 10 point.

Gala premiere

When ali was editing, and optimist that our film would be great. Then i had an idea to held Gala Premiere. So, we didn't distribute this film for public. If they want to watch, come to Gala Premiere. But, our plan not really run well. Because, our film would be play first at Kantek. So, the team change plan that there was two  "small event", screening at Kantek and Gazmet just for "anak metal". In Gazmet we also played behind the scene. The "event" run well, we can feel our togetherness as "anak metal" by watching this film together :)

Honestly i shocked. I didn't know that would be real poster and standing banner with this design. Super awesome

Ya, polycrystalline is the 1st winner of short film in teknik cup 2012. As a producer said "Sudah bisa ngumpulin aja, itu sudah gak nyangka. Eh alhamdulillah menang". Thanks to all crew, cast and every people who contribute in this filmmaking and who already watch and give comment.

Workshop Penyutradaraan

Sabtu 1 Oktober 2011, Pertama kalinya ikutan workshop yang diadain sama Sinetra UI (Komunitas perfilman di UI). kali ini temanya tentang penyutradaraan dan pembicaranya Dennis Adhiswara. seneng banget bisa kenalan, ngobrol-ngobrol dan tanya banyak hal sama sineas muda berbakat Indonesia.

yoey, gaul abis dah si mas dennis ini, beberapa jam di kelas gak ngantuk karena pembawaan workshopnya seru. terus juga ditunjukin beberapa film pendek yang keren banget. ah, jadi mau buru-buru bikin film pendek yang cuma 2 menitan gitu, simpel tapi ngena maknanya. kalo kata dia,

"Mendingan bikin film semenit, dua menit daripada gak buat film sama sekali karena nunggu prepare buat film panjang yang bakalan lama banget"

Film Ekskursi Metal 2008

PSB (Pelepasan Sarjana Baru) itu merupakan tradisi yang ada di teknik. dimana merupakan persembahan junior buat senior yang telah lulus. Gue gak bisa nyanyi, ngeband atau semacamnya. jadi gak bisa ngasih sesuatu persembahan ke para senior.

tapi gue coba buat film dokumenter Metal 2008 saat ekskursi. intinya emang gue lagi pengen aja buat stop motion yang agak niat. walaupun hasilnya masih standard. at least gue udah coba. dan ada satu temen angkatan gue yang lulus. gue mikirnya "wah nanti di PSB masa cuma video anak 2007 doang yang ditampilin. 2008 nya gak ada. kasian dong ghiska, wisuda gak ada videonya". yaudah bikin lah gue

walaupun di part awal, gak banyak ghiskanya (emang itu yang gue masukin cuma yang ada di kamera gue, maap ya) tapi gue coba buat film yang endingnya diluar bayangan kalian. dan konsepnya emang stop motion dimana transisinya cepet banget. jadi bukan slide show foto biasa ditambah lagu yang bisa jadi bahan lawakan atau kenangan. maap ya, cuma mau tampilin sesuatu yang berbeda.

first movie that i wanna produce with Sinetra Crew (Pre-UKM in University of Indonesia about Cinematography). the title is Russian Roulette. actually i not really enjoy the excecution. i don't know why. but i try to be honest. wish the movie will be good

Free Workshop Filmmaking

recently, i went to Oktagon (gunung sahari) to attending Free Workshop about Filmmaking. even not really long just two hours but it gave me more knowledge about filmmaking. difference between formalistic and naturalistic film, type of shot and kind of lighting. thats cool!
