Final Exhibition KPJ 9

Last thing usually is the best thing. That was my expectation when I did my final task for the final photography exhibition in Kelas Pagi. However, It didn't run as my expectation.

The theme is Jakarta. I didn't really know what I want to share about. I proposed my concept to Pa'e (Anton Ismael) about Dufan in my thought. Nonetheless, the concept wasn't strong enough. I have changed my concept less than a week before the day. I don't have time and willingness to show my concept to Pa'e. Everything was so fast. I also don't have time to use model or even ask my friend for being my model. Therefore I do self portrait.

If you don't understand what it means, never mind. That art is still being the part of my learning process. I thank to my friend who spent their time coming to our exhibition. Though, it wasn't my best art, I promise to do art-making again and again and becoming better and better.

Becoming Contributor in Travel Magazine. How Come?

Traveling and getting paid from it are so interesting. I often do internet surfing and seeing the pictures in someone's blog about his/her traveling experience. That's so amazing and it makes me envy. Working in magazine to take pictures of beautiful sceneries and activities sounds fun as well. Since December, my classmates and I were asked by our travel photography mentor, Sasha, to do coverage of Jakarta. Sasha is editor-in-chief of Linkers, in house travel magazine of Citilink. Fortunately, we got privilege for being contributor in Linkers.

This coverage activity has been done since a few months ago. However, I just joined in team since December. I feel like getting rare chance and being lucky for doing this kind of thing. We moved around Jakarta for taking pictures of historical places, tourist attractions and spots, legendary food, etc. Usually, it's easy to me for taking those kind of picture. Nevertheless, I did it more careful since I know these picture will be displayed in magazine. That's why I need to capture decent pictures.

Beside taking pictures, we were asked to write the article by ourselves. I got many lesson learned from Sasha. She directly corrects us when there's error. Hopefully, I'll get another exciting experience in this industry :)

First Time Experience 'Nebeng' with Stranger

Currently I'm running Festival Museum Nasional whose operational office in Bangka, Kemang. Yesterday, I didn't use my motorbike since I went around the schools for roadshow using my friend's motorbike. He suggested me back to home after we had finished roadshow. However, I thought I can ask Muthia or Sesha to join one of their cars. They live in Tebet, neaby my house.

Unfortunatelly, both of those women didn't back to office. They directly backed to home after having done for roadshow. That was my first time actually backed from Kemang without private transportation. I have several common options. First one, busway/angkot. Second one, ojek. Third one, taxi.

I am the one who always use public transportation when I don't use my motorbike. I mean, I rarely use ojek or taxi. I can't imagine using taxi because I thought It can be more than IDR 50.000. Maybe 80.000 or 100.000 because the traffic was bad. I tried to see GOJEK price for my route and it shows IDR 41.000. If I want to use public transportation such as busway or angkot, I need to use Ojek first to Tendean or Mampang. However I imagined that busway will be loaded by tons of people at that peak hour. At a glance, I remember Nebengers because one of my friend (Yudha) is president of district Tangsel for Nebengers (Lurah Nebengers Tangsel).

I tweeted and mentioned @nebengers, but it explained me the rules.

After doing all prerequisites, my tweet has been retweeted by @nebengers, but there was no mention at all for me. I tried to search #BeriTebengan and I found one nearest route for me, that was tweet from @amatjanury. Immediately, I mentioned him and finally we had a deal to meet in Rolling Stone Cafe, Ampera.

I went to Indomaret to buy fresh drink for him as thanksgiving. Anyway I'm forget that actually he tweeted "share cost" as requisite but I just gave him fresh drink, I just realized when I arrived at home. Back to the story, I need to go to Rolling Stone as meeting point, I ask my officemate, she said there is Kopaja to go there, but it's quite rare. I asked ojek near Indomaret, he said "IDR 30.000" from bangka X (200 meters from McD Kemang) to Rolling Stone. I guessed it was quite expensive eventhough I didn't really sure about the ojek price. I walked a bit until McD kemang wishing there would be Kopaja. Nevertheless, there was Ojek who approached me. He offered himself, first he said IDR 20.000 then I bargained to IDR 10.000. Finally we dealt IDR 10.000. That ojek is very nice to me.

After waiting about 10-15 minutes in the cafe. My phone was vibrated regarding incoming text and there was stopped motorbike nearby me. I guess he was Amat and yes my guess was right. I shoke his hand and gave the fresh drink. Then I sat on the back seat and share some stories with him.

Basically, I love making new friends and @nebengers is one of interesting way to expand our network. I think, I will bring my extra helmet regularly then post to twitter #BeriTebengan. Despite many people need our tebengan and we can get new friends. I hope there will be more interesting nebeng stories :)

Accompany Bulgarian around Jakarta

Have you ever read my blogpost about being a host for polish woman? If you haven't, just read it here. A week ago, I accompanied young student from Bulgaria. Her name is Petia. Actually, I am bit surprised when I got couchrequest from Petia. Because that was my first time being requested. For my first experience as couchsurfing host, I just was asked by my friend to accompany her guest from Polandia. The polish woman didn't contact me directly via couchsurfing.

I made appointment in my office tower after office hour. Petia said she stayed in Pejaten. So, I gave her detail direction and information to reach my office. When we were going to Bundaran HI, she said she were from Monas. If I had known it before, I'll tell her just stay in Monas or directly meet up around Bundaran HI.

She is 3rd year student who take Book Publishing as her major and also part time as publisher. So relevant. She shared me a lot about Bulgaria. She said that Bulgaria is the lowest economic country in europe union. In other side of economic, it has beautiful scenery. Petia loves to hike and do adventure activities. I slightly surprised when she said a bit about Indonesia history. She knows it since she is also Journalist.

The most interesting point of her is photography. She was using analogue camera with raw film when we did photohunt. And she also taught me how to operate it. Maybe some of you think, it is easy just press shutter button. In fact, it's not easy as we think. It is analogue professional camera. So, I need to adjust diafragma and focus. That was my first time using that kind of camera.

From Bundaran HI we walked to Sabang for having dinner. I ate sate, while she just continue her story. She didn't eat. She said she already have dinner and her stomach is full. After having dinner, we backed to Bundaran HI and continue to Skye where located in the top of Menara BCA. She said, she wants experience from skyscrapper and taking pictures from the top of town. Because there is no high building in Bulgaria. Maybe there is, but it's not as high as that in Jakarta.

When we were waiting elevator, Petia asked "do we need to dress up?". We just dress casually. I wore casual shirt, jeans, shoes, bag and tripod. While Petia just using simple trousers and casual t-shirt and her flat shoes. When we were in 56th floor Menara BCA, the waitress ask us to dinner area. When I see the dinner area, it just close zone. I mean there is no area where we can take a picture of Jakarta from this building. If we want to do that, we must go tou lounge. But unfortunatelly it has dresscode for whoever want to go there and enjoy the circumstance. Since we are not really well dress, then we finish our night.

I took her first to her boarding house and finally backed to home. It always be interesting getting know new people and sharing our different culture. I hope there are more couchsurfer who request to me. As long as I available, I would host you around jakarta. Just let me know.
